So there was a big scratch tournament at my home bowling center today. I really would have loved to have bowled in it, but with all the top players in the city there and a sprinkling of a few PBA tour players in the field, I knew better than to donate my $100 entry fee to the prize fund. I mean, I'm not the smartest guy in the room, but I'm not the dumbest guy, either. I'll bowl scratch against my fellow seniors, but to bowl against the young flat bellies on a tough sport shot that I've never bowled on before, well, mama didn't raise no dummy. No, instead, I decided to use this opportunity when the best players were at my home center to go bowl in the monthly No-Tap tournament across town. Turns out even if some of the usual cast of high scoring characters had been bowling in the No-Tap tonight, I might just have won anyway. Format: Bowl four games, throw out the low score and keep your best three. My best three were 300-300-287=887. Winner, winner, chicken dinner! And even though it was a no-tap, I really couldn't have bowled any better. Those two back-to-back no-tap 300 games included 9 natural strikes in the first one and 10 natural strikes in the second one. Hell, maybe I should have bowled in that scratch tournament. Nah, probably not.

I agree!

That ball is just plain nasty!  There's something to be said about that hybrid cover!   I haven't bowled a ton of games with mine yet because I'm saving it to start with a fresh ball for fall league...LOL... not that it should matter because I could always buy another!
My Corrupt only has 10-15 games on it and I am loving this ball more than any other new ball out of the box purchase.   I am interested to see how well it holds-up as I bowl a shit-TON of games with it.

Keep in mind I'm a noob bowler that is 3.5yrs deep into the journey. This is just my 6th strike-ball purchased so far, but it has impressed in a big way!!

Well, tonight in our Wednesday Scratch Trio league, my team qualified for next week's Summer season-ending championship stepladder finals.

It's kind of an interesting format, and one I had proposed at the beginning of the Summer.  Works like this:  Just six teams in this league, so the top three advance to the championship round stepladder, while the bottom three advance to a consolation stepladder.

Next week's stepladders work like this:  In the championship bracket, the 3rd place team (us) bowl the 2nd place team.  Two games, total pins decides the winner.  The winner then advances to bowl a two-game total pins match against the 1st place team.

The consolation bracket works the same, except the best you can do from that bracket is finish 4th.  6 bowls 5, the winner advances to bowl 4.

Tonight, my team, which started the night in 3rd place, but were just one point ahead of the 4th place team, was bowling them.  We needed to win 5 points (two games and total pins) to capture 3rd place, and that's exactly what we did.  We lost the first game, but then in game 2, we went off.  I shot 246 and both of my left-handed teammates shot 278, one of them starting with the front 7, the other starting with the front 9.  Then we took game 3 to extend our lead to 102 pins.  So we could lose game 4 as long as we didn't lose by 103 pins or more.  We lost by about 20, and took 3rd place.

I am so proud of this team.  We began the Summer with three of us, but one guy got sick and missed a few weeks.  Then one of his bowling fingers got infected and he had to sit out another couple weeks.  Finally, his health problems worsened and he had to have surgery and missed the whole damn Summer.  Two of us bowled shorthanded for about half of the Summer and fell what felt like hopelessly behind in the standings.  But we added a third guy and caught fire.  Tonight it all came together and we eeked into the championship stepladder bracket.

So next week, we get a chance to win two matches to capture the league title if we can run the ladder and win two matches.

Tonight, I bowled 202-246-215-223=886 and never really felt like I bowled all that well.  Made a few stupid mistakes and really just never quite "felt it."  Both of my teammates shot over 900 tonight.

Tomorrow (Thursday) night, my PBA Experience league is also bowling the final week before the stepladder finals next week.  My team in that league is a virtual lock to make the championship round, where, in that league, there are four teams that will advance to the stepladder.  We're doing the same thing in that league.  The top 4 teams bowl one-game stepladder matches next week, and the bottom 4 teams will do the same in the consolation bracket.  My team begins the night tomorrow firmly in 2nd place, with quite a bit of space between us and 3rd place, and within reach of qualifying in the #1 position.  Although we bowl for match points in that league, with 28 points in play each night.  So teams can make a big move in a hurry.  Tomorrow and the following week when the stepladder finals are held, we'll be bowling on Badger.  52 feet of fun.

sounds like fun Randy!   I'm finished with summer bowling and looking forward to August 26th when winter league starts!   FYI.....calling it "winter league" is a huge misnomer because it runs through all 4 seasons!!    starts late summer and finishes late spring!!  HEHE

Summer league is over.  I shot 235-235-198-248 for 916.  Finished with a 227 average.  Our team won all 10 points.  I used a new Roto Grip Haywire for games 1 and 2, and a new Roto Grip Hyper Cell Skid for games 3 and 4 on a different pair that was burnt out.

Our team started in 22nd place and ended up in 16th place.

Here is our final league sheet, we are team #32

Also attached is the league financial statement with payoffs.
