When the PBA was doing all those taped events on ESPN, I wondered if the PBA was going to sink into oblivion. It felt like the taped billiards tournaments that they were also broadcasting at that time.  Now, with live events on Fox stations, it feels like the PBA is back, maybe stronger than ever.  It's great to see the live tournaments.

It will never be like it  was in it's heyday but it's a vast improvement

I prefer the old ABC format of four matches in 90 minutes.  The Fox and ESPN formats with 30 minutes per match have too much down time between games, and too much opportunity for fluff.

I wish Fox could find a real knowledgeable professional bowling announcer instead of some recycled Hambone.

It will never be like it was in the Dick Weber, et al era, but it could be a great new era.  My frame of reference is Earl Anthony, Mark Roth, and Marshall Holman.  It may never be like that either, but it can be great in a new way.

Agreed.  I respect Randy Petersen as a bowler but he and Rob Stone really let down the telecasts with their announcing.  There have to be plenty of well-spoken (former) professional bowlers out there that can do a better job with color commentary.

And ANYBODY is better than Rob Stone.

I've tried watching the new format but I can't get past all the screaming and carrying on by both the spectators and bowlers.  Shut up and bowl, just bowl.

Yep...I find them unwatchable.

I like the energy in the tournaments today.  Watching the recent Kyle Troop/Chris Barnes finals, the back and forth between Troop and Barnes was good natured, the crowd was into the game, and I thought it was a good show.
