I seem to have hit a wall.  I am stuck at 200.  I can get 220's, 230's and up, but then I always get a 180 along the way and am stuck at 200 in league.  I won't give myself an out by saying in 20 days I'll be seventy, because I don't want to settle for that.  I bowl recreationally 2-3 times a week but only 1 Senior league.  I am always in the top 3-4 averages, but just don't seem to be able to get motivated to do better.  I've thought about joining an evening league but I don't see well at night anymore and I'm not sure getting better is worth the risk.

I can't be the only one who seems stuck.  Any suggestions guys?

is there a game number that is always lower than the rest?  2nd game seems to be my worst, because of the lane transition of oil.

When I have a bad one, it is usually the first.  I have never liked bowling on fresh oil and have trouble adapting to the first game condition.  Tuesday I had 200, 199 and 225.  Last week it was 199, 200, 227.

I averaged 199 four years in a row at Ft Knox.  I haven't bowled a league anywhere else.  The other houses I've tried in the afternoons are all burned out conditions so that isn't a good test.

How's your spare shooting? I'm averaging 204 at Strike and Spares and 200 at
Ten Pin and my spare shooting is horrible. Plus having a bad foot infection didn't
help things. A word of advice if your Dr tries to give you Cipro run

I rarely have a clean game.  Typically one open each game.  Frequently the first frame, if not then the 8th or 9th.  Bugs the begebies out of me.  I think it's because I'm not in a really competitive league.  I don't pay enough attention when I should.

I went bowling last Friday at a place I don't typically go to and bowled 7 games.  I discovered I am not finishing close enough to the foul line, and tend to let my ball speed drop.  I kept better track of ball speed and realized it drops mostly the last game.  Not necessarily the 3rd game as you would expect in a standard league, but the last.  Now if I can push myself to keep my speed up and focus I can break the 199 ceiling for once.

Funny I noticed my ball speed increases the 3 rd game. I always end
about 2 inches from the foul line. Some people I watch are 3 feet back
which made me think it easier to hit something 60 feet away than 63

I noticed a couple of years ago that Seniors tend to finish a couple of feet back of the foul line, with many taking an extra step after releasing the ball.  I use a plastic ball for ten pins and if I finish too far behind the foul line, the ball drops in the gutter just before the pin.  I also see many of them using lifts in their ball, which I think makes them pull the ball since many of them haven't had their ball fixed in a long time, and they are hanging onto it for dear life.

Oh the joys of getting old.

I've always finished about 2 feet from the foul line, primarily because when I'm trying to throw straight up the boards I use the foul line for targeting.  Much easier to do that from a couple feet back than when you're standing on top of it.  It doesn't adversely affect my game when I'm using the arrows for targeting spares and bending the ball on my first shot.

I target off the foul line too. Problem is with me when I move
back from my starting spot I take bigger steps and when moving
up smaller ones. I always end in the same plave from the foul line

I just got home from bowling.  I've been having trouble with my thumbs, especially with my left (support) hand, so I tried using a thumb/wrist support on that hand and opened the first three frames of the first game.  I finally took it off and ended up with a 202.  Second game I got my ball speed up to 13+ and rolled a 278 with a soft 10 in the 5th and ringing 10 the last ball of the tenth frame.  Third game same ball I hit the pocket every frame and had 5 splits for a 143.  I just couldn't keep my ball speed up and paid the price.  This is getting too frustrating.  I don't know if I need to change to a less aggressive ball for the third game and just play up the boards, or what.  I'm debating about maybe urethane for the third.
