A few weeks ago, Was bowling Duckpins down at Queen Annes  Bowling center, the split house i bowl at sometimes, Finished up Ducks, and decided to check what was new on the tenpin racks. found a Storm triple x .Span felt almost right so, Got Mary Ellen to turn on a lane. their lanes are synthetic for the first 15,20 feet the rest wood. first game 168 second 195 . Only problem I found with the ball was somebody did the worst plug job I ever saw, they had moved the thumb and the epoxy was sticking out above the surface. Mary Ellen came over because the ball fell off the above ground return because it hit that spot and rolled back down the gutter She thought it was my own ball, when I told her it was theirs, Told me to take The "hacked up ball " home. Jay. my pro shop guy laughed when he saw it but sanded down the spot but  said he would not touch the rest of  the plug. said they mixed it too strong and that was why it did that. and the  Ball may eventually crack but, just bowl with it. next week at Bowlerama, threw my best game ever. a 267 Have any of you ever had this ball? Sorry to write a novel lol. Also, threw a 200 a while back with "Donna" my yellow dot bleeder. and a 199 the day of the 267.

A XXX? WOW! Been AGES since I saw one of those. Was it pearl or solid? Good balls, both but I liked the pearl better than the solid personally

Rep,

I know this sounds dumb but, I don't know. it is dull looking right now  it has multiple colors swirled together deep red, dark blue or purple and gold. these newer balls get me confused. when I think of " pearl" balls I think of the older Single color balls, like the gold dot. pearl hammers etc. guess I still have a lot to learn  lol.  I do know that I like how it hits and it does not seem too hard for me to control but, know if I am off a bit on speed or my target, she hooks hard and goes Brooklyn but still get good wood most of the time. and no weird leaves yet. but then I do pretty good with "Donna" my yellow dot bleeder and my purple pearl beast, still like that ball but, it's a 16 pound and it tires me out. I  have been keeping my eyes out for a 14 or a ball that performs like it.. I sure hope I don't come off looking like a total newbie .

Rep,

Just talked to Jay, My pro shop guy, he says it could either be a solid, or a "Hybrid" . All I know is, when I get it in the pocket, she sure makes the pins move around, I know it's and "obsolete" ball but, this is the most hooking ball I have ever thrown. only thing is , it' s 16 pd and if I lose speed, bad things happen Sure wish I could find one in 14 pds .Still have "Donna" my Yellow Dot Bleeder in the bag too.

Hmm, I'll have to look into it. Maybe the solid I was thinking of was a hybrid, but I do remember the pearl, that was the one I had the better success with. The one you have was good but for around here it rolled just a little too early. No worries about "obsolete", when I bowled I never had the $ to keep my stuff new and I still scored well. The way I see it, if it's round, it's not obsolete heh. Despite my tiny size I always threw 16lbs since I was a teenager. I had very fast feet and good upper body strength for a little guy tho so speed was never an issue. Glad you like the ball though! I think the one you had would've worked really well in this area too if there wasn't so much early hook or the juiced the heads up a little bit more

Rep,

What does the " Pearl" xxx look like ? I might be hitting a couple of centers around here I have not bowled at in a while, and check out the racks'  Don't know if the one house, if they have anything will even let make a offer  to buy it, most of the other centers I bowl at, have let me take balls, Even if I do not have anything to trade. but, I try to find out if they are looking for light balls. Queen Anne's  is always looking for 10-11 pds ,or lighter . I love bowling good games with the old stuff, Especialy when there are guys next to me throwing the newest stuff and can not hit crap. and they ask what I'm throwing.

It actually looks similar to what you have, a little darker tho. I wanna say it's red/purple/blue but darker shades of the colors. All the centers I've worked in we allow people to take house balls as long as it didn't have the centers name engraved on it. Lighter balls are always good for the centers, as bowling has become more casual / recreational they're more needed, most open bowlers don't wanna use a 16. I know with my lousy finances I'd never get rid of a ball that rolled well no matter what the age. They do of course lose some hook as time goes on but I've been able to keep them hooking decently buy soaking in hot water and using degreaser. As the hook tames down it actually fit into my game better, it allowed me to get farther right and play more up the lane and with the wall of oil to the left and dry to the right the lanes had great area for my "A" game. Just cuz stuff is older doesn't mean it's no good! [smile]

I don't mean to pee on the parade but this is my take on old worn-out abandoned found balls......

Maybe they were once nice reactive balls in their day when they were FRESH, but over the course of 100s/1,000s of games, the cover wears, the ball loses energy,  and start leaving corner pins. Carry goes to CRAP.   what is left is an worn-out ball.   If you are a lefty that finds a righty ball, maybe there is HOPE?  I don't really know??  different track maybe??  If it's an abandoned old worn out ball, it probably is what it is....and I wouldn't get too excited about it.   These are my thoughts....

When I hear people proclaim....."Hey, it's only a 2003 model!" I cringe............   I have a couple 2012-2013 resin balls that I would never sell because I bowled the "CRAP" out of them.........

Buckeye,

While I respect your viewpoint, I do not agree with it. Like Rep said, just because it's old does not mean it's no good. This triple x ball, while  it is old, and definitely been mistreated. Still works good for me. For Me, finding and using "obsolete" balls is a way for me to experiment with different types of balls, Coverstocks, weight blocks etc. Without spending tons of money. yes. I know some of these balls I have grabbed, like  This latest one, may have tons of games on them, and are not going to react like when new,  may even be close to being "dead" and certainly not like the newest offering form the companies . but, I have fun. and in my opinion, that's  what bowling for me is about, yes, I want to get better but, I am not Spending a fortune for balls, but, who knows, one day I might even break down and but a new ball .

I have so many games on my AMF Shred-It, I lost count. It still hits great. You just got to clean them and take care of them. This ball cam out 5 years ago and it ain't leaving my bowling bag anytime soon. It's still my favorite ball. My go to ball so to say.

The modern bowling ball is made to die.  My Nightmare is two years old (I think) and it's already cracked around the finger holes.  So, its day will come.  I have probably about 30 games on my Corrupt right now....its going to probably need some 4000 abralon soon because it reacts really inconsistently, at least where I bowl it does.  I don't think it likes the bay I bowl in...it did better on the lanes on the other side of the house. [biggrin]
