A couple of thoughts:

There is a PTQ (pre tournament qualifier) for 6 spots into the regular field.  To be eligible to bowl the PTQ, you have to be a champions of a regular or senior regional tournament, PBA50 or Women's series champion.

The regular field is 62, so there will be 68 players all together.

18 games of qualifying, cut down to 24 top players, then 23 games of match play and 1 final game of position round.

Top 5 advance to TV stepladder finals.

I believe this is the final T of C for 88 year old Carmen Salvino.

Finally, I can't get used to this tournament being staged in February.  I used to like it being the final tournament of the winter tour.

this is the roster of 62:  https://www.pba.com/Rosters/Details/3087

It's nice to see the PBA Tournament of Champions back at Riviera Lanes where it should of always been held, because that's where it was originally held for years. There's nothing wrong with a change now and then but, such prestigious events should always be held in the same spot almost every year.  Riviera Lanes is every bowlers dream. I was there in 1989 just visiting from out of town my hometown Buffalo, NY, traveling with 2 other really darn good bowlers who we as a trio were looking for some action/pot games. It was so clean and spotless in that center, not to mention very historic and photogenic. There were pictures on a wall there of all of the past T of C champions. Great center and Akron is a nice town, with the exception of the poopy sewer smell lol!

I opened bowled there 8 games in 1995.  Mike Durbin was working the counter.  I asked for lanes 27/28, the championship pair, and they complied!  In fact, it was the Saturday right after Randy Pederson's stone 8 heard around the world, and Ernie's reaction, "I am the greatest".  I too loved all the pictures of all the past TOC highlights on the wall.  It is my understanding that all of it is gone.  The sign "thought these doors...." then was painted above the doors.  Now they made up a banner, but at least they acknowledge it.  I wish I could have bowled there forever.

Randy talked about that 8 and said something like punching
Ernie. Wouldn't have blamed him

I agree mrbowling300, I wished I could bowl there forever to lol. A very nice and clean center, with a great atmosphere. Riviera is what bowling is all about and still should be but, unfortunately isn't!
