I was chatting with some friends the other night, and they wanted to go bowl at the Hilton. So I went with them, at 11 at night. The glow lights were on, and it was alright. UNTIL..... some drunk idiot decides to pick up my Hole Pounder, saying it's his. He then takes my ball, throws it down an off lane, and it takes about 30 minutes for the desk to assign that lane and for me to get my ball back. I was mad, let's leave it at that.

MY QUESTION IS THIS.... Why can centers sell alcohol, yet not dish out consequences when it gets out of control?? I remember at the military centers in Hawaii, there was a 2 drink MAXIMUM, and they stamped your hand when you bought a beverage. If you started hijinks, you were out, no questions asked. Why can't centers be run like the centers run by our own military? I'm done ranting.

Centers won't put their foot down because they're afraid of lawsuits.  A drunk guy gets rowdy, two employees walk him outside, then the guy sues them for some sort of "injury".  Or if the troublemaker is ethnic, they can claim discrimination.  Heaven forbid if it gets physical.

The military is a different story...everybody bowling there is in the military (or a member's family), so the staff has all the right in the world to dictate policy and keep people in line.

At least around here, some centers seem to attract more 'riff-raff' than others.  There are only 2 or 3 places where I go to open bowl, and they're places where I know I won't have issues like yours to deal with.

At most places in the Detroit area, he would have been kicked out.  And you wouldn't have had to wait 30 minutes to get your ball back.

I went up to the desk and asked them to turn on the pit so I could get it back, they said they would. Ten minutes later, they come up to me saying there is no ball back there. When they gave out the lane, my ball comes out of the return. I could tell it was mine because I am probably the only person in the world who still throws a Banger ball. They apologized and gave me 3 free games for their misunderstanding.

Totally agree themrfreeze. management, in some cases, is simply too scared of a possible lawsuit. Some of the older members on the board here can certainly relate to the days, many years ago, when bowling alleys were pretty much all smoke-filled 'dives', when rowdy, intoxicated customers were more the norm than the exception. But the difference then was that if it got out of hand, not only would the offenders be 'asked' to leave,........they'd be physically thrown out on their butts.

Didn't sweat the lawyers back then.
