With super big sites you have the problem of keeping things in line. Here
while small everyone seems to be civil to each other.

Same here.  Social media sites like Facebook were specifically designed to get you addicted to them...several people who helped design FB have now come out and publicly stated how much they regret creating it.  While keeping in touch with some people over FB had its advantages, there were simply too many disadvantages for me to stay.  Places like this forum are much more civil and BS-free, and I feel the quality of our interactions here is far more meaningful than anything social media has to offer.
