I have been digging through videos of some of the professional bowlers often using this "yo-yo" release. While revs don't determine your game, I just couldn't help but admire the physical game these players put on...
The one player I've been looking at the most recently is Dom Barrett. His hand at the release seems to turn, cup into a yo-yo and releases the ball like one. I'm familiar with this concept. However, I still cannot see how he is able to turn the direction of the roll towards the pins without affecting the ball's trajectory.
To better explain this, I'll present a gif of Barrett's release.
Like this, his fingers ride the surface of the bowling ball enough to make it roll towards the right direction, but this does not affect the direction the ball is launched. You can even see his hand coming out to the left... How is this done?
