I couldn't think of a way to get the entire question in the title.  For you pros out there.  Does the material removed from a bowling ball equal the weight of an interchangeable thumb insert? If it does not, wouldn't that affect the balance and roll of the ball?
Old bowlers never die, they just fade away.

The insert/sleeve combination acts like a very large thumbhole. If you were converting a ball from a standard thumbhole to switch grips you will probably change the ball reaction a bit. I'm pretty sure my converted equipment began rolling earlier after I switched. It was a subtle change, but enough to notice.
