I know it's unlikely many of you will be interested in coming to this, but because I know the younger set of bowling kids (11 and under) are largely under-served and I already have commitments from parents who tell me they're bringing their kids in from as far away as San Francisco, Kalamazoo, Boston and Kingston, NY, I figure why not share this here with you guys. You never know. Maybe one or more of you would be interested.
The following email blast just went out to youth directors throughout the Atlanta area:
I’m writing to you today because you are (or were) either a Youth Director running a youth program at one or more of our local bowling centers here in the Atlanta area or are/were involved in youth bowling in the area. I wanted to make you aware of a very special upcoming event that’s been on the docket for several weeks, and I thought you might want to pass this information along to some of your kids and their parents.
As most of you know, I produce a weekly, made-for-YouTube “TV” show called PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR. This show is meant to look and feel as much like a network bowling telecast as I can make it on a budget of exactly $0, except that instead of having professional bowlers, the stars of the show are youth bowlers. Some of the kids on the show are among the very best in the state of Georgia.
But this time, we’re doing something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time. On July 20th, we’re doing a show “For Littles Only.” This is open exclusively to the 11 and under set (we’re also allowing a few 12 year olds in if they’re “little” and bowl more like the little kids).
The cost is just $10. While I always tell people that the format on these PRODIGY events is subject to last-minute audibles (based on my assessment of who we’ve got and how they break into different skill levels, ages, etc.), but the plan at this time is to have them bowl a 3-game qualifier and cut to the top 5 for a “televised” stepladder. If we get enough super little kids (like 7, 8 year olds), I’d consider breaking them off into their own “micros” division, which would affect the numbers in the stepladder. Again, my objective here is to give as many kids as possible a realistic chance of making the show without turning my work of editing the show into a monstrosity.
If you’ve never seen PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR, take a few minutes and sample our recent Tournament of Champions. (Seen below.)
There’s almost nothing in the way of tournament competition for these little kids, and I’m thrilled to be holding this event to give them something to bowl in so they can get a little taste of what tournament bowling is like without all the pressure that is usually associated with it. The grand prize is nothing more than a symbolic trophy…although most of the kids who will want to bowl in this event will be doing so mostly in hopes of appearing on the show. As of right now, I have commitments from parents who have told me they’re bringing their kids in from San Francisco, California; Kalamazoo, Michigan; Boston, Massachusetts; and today I spoke to the father of a 9-year-old boy who’s coming in from Kingston, New York. He tells me that almost all the kids in the 100-member youth league there in Kingston are big fans of PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR. The show does have quite a following, and it’s a pretty safe bet that many of the kids in your youth program already watch it. The show routinely gets about 15-thousand viewers a week, with fans all around the world.
So, please spread the word about our special “For Littles Only” event that is being held next Saturday, JULY 20th at Bowlero Roswell (formerly known as Brunswick Zone Roswell). The address of the bowling center is 785 Old Roswell Road, Roswell, GA 30076. The number at the center is (770) 998-9437.
If someone wants to have their child bowl in this event, all they need to do is send me an email letting me know. Send it to me at email@example.com. Letting me know ahead of time will enable me to reserve a sufficient number of lanes. Check-in is at 11:30 AM on Saturday, July 20th. We’ll start bowling as soon after 12 Noon as we can once I get the lane assignments done.
Please watch the quick 80-second long promotional video for the event, seen at the bottom of this page.
Feel free to forward this email to your youth league bowlers and parents, or anyone else you know who has kids 11 and under who might be interested.
