Is it time to look for a new team when you can't fill a full lineup when someone is always absent every week? It's getting annoying.

What's worse is these people won't find a sub. They just say they ain't coming.

Which leads to another question: Who finds an absent bowler's sub? The bowler or the team captain?

I say the absent bowler should find the sub.

Only bowled 1 time in a league with floating subs.  My only problem is when a team looses a bowler they expect me to find one for them.

I had this issue all last year, and it was really annoying, so I know what you're going through.  We had one guy who all of a sudden joined a golf team and said he was going to be absent week #2 through week 9.  7 or 8 weeks.  On top of that, we had our typical illnesses, vacations, etc.  One of our bowlers had surgery in January and basically quit.  It seemed to fall on me, the team captain to find replacements.  If I didn't take the initiative to find a sub, then we would have bowled short handed.   So between 3 or 4 people, it was difficult finding someone to bowl.  It created quite a stress, and our team finished next to last.  At the end of last season, the golf league guy missed the final 4 weeks because of golf again...and he announced he would miss the first 9 weeks again of the season.  On top of that, every week, bowler number 1 and 2 would pack up and leave after their 10th frame of the 3rd game without knowing if we won or lost because they would leave before I would ever bowl my 10th frame (i bowl anchor)

There was me and one other on the team who had enough.  So basically, the guy who had surgery didn't want to come back.  The golf guy and another habitual absentee were told by me not to come back, or the best I can do is have them as subs.  I got two others to join, The Big Cat and a kid who graduated from Mich State, who bowled there who I knew to join our team.

After just two weeks, the mood, the chemistry between us 5 is quite amazing...people want to be there, and it was the best decision I ever made.  Everyone is competitive and wants to win very badly.

My advice to you is get out of that situation, and find something better that works for you, and your goals.  I waited too long to do this type of thing and put up with a situation that was not fun and stressful for about 3 years too many.  Life is short.

Well, as of yesterday I am officially a "free agent." Time to find a new team and/or league for Thursday's next year.

One of my injured teammates came into the bowling center last night to say he wasn't bowling at all this year. So no matter what, we are still bowling 3 this fall and maybe 4 after the new year. Maybe. We are supposed to have 5 guys.

Next week we bowl Ray Charles' team. The 3 of us will be done in an hour.

that suck....I feel for you.  Like I said, it was a big issue for my team last year.  Finding subs was a royal pain as well.  Good luck...I hope you find a good situation for next year.
